Rosebud - have A Cigar

Rock goes Disco!!! That's the slogan for the day with today's post.

Remember Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar"? Of course you do!!!! Well did you know a disco group called Rosebud covered this tune in 1979. This is the only time they charted on any of Billboard's charts.

I don't know anything about this group except that it's a fun song to listen to.

Taken from the original 12" single on Warner 8784

Have A Cigar 6:27
Song charted on April 14, 1979. Spent 19 weeks on the chart and reached #4

wow, I didn't even know this existed let alone be a top-5 dance hit. I guess the scissor sisters weren't the pioneers in redoing PF material.
thanks!
Cheers

This was a GREAT song and highly underrated at the time (and even now...).

I managed a disco "back in the day" and I personally asked my DJ to spin this one at least once a night.

Ahhh, the good old days...

I know a little bit about this one:
Rosebud was a run-of-the-mill rock band in the style of Ram Jam/The Rockets/et. al, and their full-length LP shows it. I recall reading, sometime in the 80's, that WB forced them to record a disco song, telling them to make one or their LP would go straight to the cutout bin. They picked 'Have A Cigar" because they felt, like PF did when they wrote it, that they'd been flim-flammed by the label. The irony, of course, is that the song they never wanted to do is the one thing they'll be remembered for...
